Bringing you all that cool and happening in Coldplayland. Viva La Vida Baby!

Performing live remains a rush for Coldplay, the planet’s hottest band

Performing in Coldplay - performing in the world’s biggest band - could get comfy. Too comfy, even.

For bassist Guy Berryman, though, the nightly thrill is intact. Even after all the massive stadium shows, all the mega festivals, stepping on stage still brings a tingle - that rush of blood, you might call it.

“I don’t get nervous anymore. But I still get that great sense of excitement,” he says. “I love that moment right before we go on, that anticipation of the lights coming down. It never tires for me.”

Coldplay is on a global tour supporting “Vida La Vida or Death and All His Friends,” the British band’s fourth album of moody, edge-of-artsy piano rock. In a year of music industry struggles, the album is a big-time standout, having enjoyed the biggest debut yet for Berryman, vocalist-pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckman and drummer Will Champion: In the United States alone, the album sold 720,000 copies its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan - more than 300,000 of them on the first day.

Coldplay Concert in Philadelphia 11/1/08
Just because we are smart and have common sense and sensibility doesn’t mean we are Democrats–although we are…-Chris Martin of Coldplay last night during the concert in Philadelphia.
Chris exclaimed, “Obama!” at the close of his performance on SNL last week, so his political statement was not a surprise.

Lessons from Coldplay - The Sunday Salon

Last night I went to my first big arena show - Coldplay at the Wachovia Center in Philly. I had a blast, even with a pretty stuffy head cold and nosebleed seats. The music was great; the effects were awesome; and I was with good friends. Wonderful night. (Don’t worry - I will connect this to reading in just a bit.)

Coldplay Get Intimate in NYC

The “Lost” quartet play an invite-only show at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

While the CMJ Music Marathon is taking over New York City, Coldplay snuck into town to tape a Yahoo / Nissan Live Show at Hammerstein Ballroom. While the 4,000 capacity venue ain’t peanuts, it certainly is a small venue for the arena rockers who have won back a devote fanbase with Viva La Vida.

A mellow crowd of mostly industry folks filled the Hammerstein floors, but the balconies, which were open, were surprisingly empty. The producers of the show easily could have gotten another thousand or so folks in. At one point, Chris even joked about how, apparently, Coldplay couldn’t get rid of enough tickets to pack the venue for a free show. [Read more]

Another Cleveland Review: Coldplay Exceeds Fan’s Expectations

Ears were buzzing, adrenaline was pumping and vocal cords were strained at Tuesday’s amazing Coldplay concert, report buchtelite.com.

The concert was at the Q arena in Cleveland, which was the perfect venue for the concert. First arriving at the Q, there appeared to be many empty seats.Shortly after Duffy finished, the audience trickled in.

Then, at roughly 9 p.m., “Life in Technicolor” started, and so did the Coldplay concert. The stage was set with lots of lighting, a huge backdrop of their album cover, glowing balls hanging from the ceiling and a few hanging screens.

Coldplay vs. QUIX and Elliot- Viva La Bitch

Viva la LA! QUIX and Elliot teamed up to give their interpretation of a Coldplay original. I love it! It kind of sounds like a mix between Bag Raiders and Armand Van Helden. See for yourself:

Coldplay changes pace with musical and lyrical complexities on ‘Viva La Vida’

“Viva la Vida” translates as “live the life.” What a title for an album that matches the epic proportions expected from a group like Coldplay!

On “Viva la Vida,” released this past June, Coldplay offers a new sound that will truly shock old fans. This time, frontman Chris Martin isn’t always singing in his falsetto about some girl. Instead, the album focuses a lot on Martin’s lower-register singing and ambiguous lyrics. [Read more]

Later, Live with Jools Holland and COLDPLAY! 07/10/2008 [Nettiereport]

This review contains spoilers. If you don’t want to be spoiled, then don’t read… LOL!

A lovely young man put me on the audience list for tonight’s taping of Live with Jools Holland. I know tickets were fully booked, so I was very grateful for this. :)

Doors opened at 7pm and I didn’t realise that I was standing in the wrong place! I was with the audiences, who were queuing up for Jools and other shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks [I've always wanted tickets to that] and Ready Steady Cook. I was actually on Coldplay’s guestlist!! I hightailed it to the main reception where I picked up my pass and went in. I wish I had realised earlier as I could’ve been inside ages ago, in the warmth…

Coldplay, Antwerp Sportpaleis
Bigger than ever

Coldplay Tower High expectations, it’s something that only the very large so capable. After the frightening perfect concert in Antwerp, there is only one conclusion: Coldplay is big, very big. Sounded for the program with Albert Hammond Junior - think of snatches of The Kooks or even Arctic Monkeys - still pretty good, then blew away Coldplay anyone with ease.

Coldplay does Suddenly Modest Stadium Act

ROTTERDAM - A beautiful opening of Coldplay, Thursday in a sold-out Ahoy. The tape has samengeklonterd a few square meters of the grand stage, and plays like a gang of friends in a youth center numbers and Life in Technicolor Violet Hill, the last album Viva la Vida. Coldplay wants one thing clear tonight: the band is still a real band and not a singer, beautiful man Chris Martin and pop idol plus three stubborn Appendices. The message will still come over repeatedly.
