No longer ‘Lost,’ Coldplay set to rock Oklahoma City

Better four months late than never.

Originally set to perform July 10 in Oklahoma City, Coldplay will finally roll their “Viva La Vida” North American Tour into the Ford Center on Sunday with special guests John Hopkins and Sleepercar.

Due to production delays, Coldplay had to postpone several summer shows on the tour. Tickets purchased for the July 10 date will be honored Sunday.

Kings of Leon undercut Coldplay’s Aussie Ticket Prices

TWO of the world’s hottest rock bands, Coldplay and Kings of Leon, will play in Melbourne in March with sharply different ticket prices.

Brit band Coldplay and American rockers Kings of Leon will strut their stuff at Rod Laver Arena.

Kings of Leon have refused costly tiered pricing, instead setting all tickets at a credit-crunch-friendly $92.

Tickets go on sale on November 24 for their March 13 concert.

Coldplay have a March 2 show on hold, with final confirmation due shortly.

Coldplay To Play Wembley Stadium In 2009?

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has hinted that the band could play London’s Wembley Stadium next year.

The group had been hoping to play Knebworth house next summer but were forced to alter plans because the country venue wasn’t available.

Writing on the bands website, Martin said: “I think we have thought of something else. Hopefully we’ll be able to announce it soon. [Read more]

A chilly start, then Coldplay was hot

The British group had a lackluster start then found some spirit and ended with truly magical moments.

But the group’s sold-out concert Friday at Xcel Energy Center was like one step forward and two steps back. The show wasn’t as consistently exciting as Coldplay’s first Twin Cities arena concert in 2003 nor as visually dazzling as the group’s 2005 effort.

Coldplay @ USA Sprint Center Kansas City, MO 13/11/2008 [Reviews/Setlist/Pictures/Video]

Coldplay inspires crowd to sing along with four-album overview

The biggest post-’90s band from Britain that doesn’t give away its music came to the Sprint Center on Thursday. And a large crowd was on hand with a loud, long and warm greeting.

And though it wasn’t always geographically correct (“Thank you, Kansas”), Coldplay knows its own history: “That’s the first time we’ve played this in the U.S.A.,” said lead singer Chris Martin after singing “Glass of Water.” That one will have its place of prominence in Coldplay trivia and lore; Thursday night it was one of the few lukewarm moments during a show loaded with highlights. Coldplay’s Roadie #42 - Blog #52

In which #42 muses on Hooters and parties

Our show in Fort Lauderdale or Miami (nobody seems exactly sure where we are) is a nicely noisy affair. You can always pretty much judge how raucous an audience is going to be by watching them during the Blue Danube intro. Tonight it’s arms aloft, swaying in time. It can’t hurt, obviously that many of these arms are attached to rather large plastic cups full of beer…

Most arenas have advertising boards on the front of the balconies. The majority of modern ones have LED panels that make a bright ring all around the venue. Tonight, when the lights go up after Speed Of Sound, Chris notes that all the way around the arena there are boards advertising a certain drinking establishment. Despite Jonny’s assertion in a Canadian radio interview that the album had been a success mainly due to the fact that “there are boobs on the cover”, Chris is at pains to point out that the “the band Coldplay has nothing to do with Hooters”. Never one to burn his bridges though, he follows this up with “although we’d like to…” [Read more]

Phoning it in? Coldplay’s new EP plagiarised reviewed

I just read Hot Press’ Irish exclusive review of Coldplay’s Prospekt’s March EP (Irish exclusive: Haven’t they heard of the internet?). In the review, Francis Jones says the EP has:

…everything from blustering rock riffs and crackling synths to Indian tablas and even a cameo performance from a hip-hop icon..

I had a sense of deja-vu and realised I had read something very similar recently. No matter, maybe it was a coincidence? While perusing my RSS feed earlier in the week, I came across a review from The Sun newspaper by Gordon Smart. Smart says Prospekt’s March EP has:

Thumping hip-hop jams, thundering metal workouts, Indian tablas and colliery brass bands all jostle for space..

There are a lot of similarities in that sentence and it could be down to the mind-numbingly boring music of Coldplay that elicits such parallel reviews, so I compared further.. [Read more]
