Coldplay, as was predicted, will be appearing on the Saturday Night Live show on Saturday 25th October 2008 on NBC [10.30pn], we can exclusively reveal.

As yet it is unknown whether it will be a live performance or an interview, or both, but here is the blurb attached to that show, released today:

John Hamm will be the guest host of Saturday Night Live on October 25th. 2008. He will be accompanied by musical guest Coldplay. John Hamm is an actor, known best for his roles on television. John Hamm was born Jonathan Daniel Hamm on March 10th. 1971. John Hamm is currently starring on Mad Men and was nominated for a 2008 Emmy Award.

I got to see the Kaiser Chiefs at the ULU in London last night. Thanks to Maysie for the spare ticket. We were waiting outside when I spotted a familiar face, mincing down the road with a camera crew in tow. It was none other than Rich Fulcher [aka Bob Fossil from The Mighty Boosh]. He was dressed as his new alter-ego Eleanor, ‘The Tour Whore’ filming segments for MTV Two’s Gonzo Tour. I just had to go over and say hello. S/he ended up interviewing me! God that was funny because he was clearly inebriated and wouldn’t share his red wine with me. I said I was teetotal anywayz. Rich is so crazy, but really funny and really rude. He looked alright dressed as a woman and has nice legs. I really hope the interview gets shown on TV.

So, basically, premier NBA small forward and hair-trigger bench brawler Ron Artest of the Houston Rockets will sample the melodious sounds of Chris Martin on his new mixtape of raps. I know, you are so bored of this same basketball-player-samples-Coldplay story and its variants, but SORRY. We’re just reporting the news. You can hear a bit of the track “Lost (Feat. Sucker for a Steely Dan sample though I may be, when Kanye’s Graduation dropped this time last year, I fell hard for “Homecoming”, a late album jam whose piano stabs lovingly call to mind The Stranger -era Billy Joel. Coming off the heels of Jay-Z’s Kingdom Come, guest star Chris Martin was giving Beyonce a run for her money as Roc-A-Fella hip hop accessory of the year, but in revisiting the track a month or so ago, I felt a little underwhelmed by how… thin the whole thing felt.
