Bringing you all that cool and happening in Coldplayland. Viva La Vida Baby!

Why Is Coldplay So Popular?

Maybe I just don’t get it. Maybe my taste in music isn’t as good as yours. Maybe my ears aren’t fine-tuned enough to recognize musical genius.

Or maybe…just maybe, Coldplay is incredibly overrated.

CRYING OVER COLDPLAY

After nothing but “terrible” reviews from the Pemberton Music Festival last weekend, invoking images of thousands of people having the time of their lives while witnessing one of the greatest concert lineups in Canadian history, we can only say we’re less disappointed than ever that Chris Martin and the Coldplay crew will not be making a stop at the ‘Dome tomorrow night as part of their Viva La Vida tour, as was originally planned when the world tour was announced.

So what if tonight’s Edmonton date and tomorrow’s Calgary show have been replaced by stops in Montreal and Toronto. [Read more]

Coldplay spreads musical wings

HP CROWD HEARS TRANSFORMED SOUND

Chris Martin just can’t make up his mind.

Not only did Coldplay have a hard time naming its just released fourth album - finally calling it “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends,” but the band’s leading man also can’t make up his mind about who exactly he wants to be, remaining fraught with insecurity despite having the No. 1- selling album in 36 countries.

“Everybody OK?”‘ he said Friday after “Violet Hill,” the single from the 20-song set the band played at HP Pavilion. [Read more]

The Future of Coldplay according to Bob Lefsetz

This snippet from Bob lefsetz was written nearly 3 years ago…

Coldplay… One has to ask, is Coldplay selling out because it’s such fantastic
music or because people need a rallying point? To feel SOME connection to the
mainstream?

But Coldplay is irrelevant. Let’s just say there will be a COUPLE of new
bands that will break through and sell tickets for a year or two (if you think
Coldplay’s gonna be doing 20,000 a night three years from now, you’re dreaming,
or else they’re going to make a quantum leap in recorded material, since “X&Y”
is so bland, so repetitive, so WEAK as to be laughable to anybody truly
listening).

Are you eating your words now…?

More Coldplay Haters

Don’t worry, I’m going. This isn’t about that. This is about the “New York Times” slamming the band once again.

I’ve got to tell you, if these insipid holier-than-thou insider New York freaks continue to beat up on the band I’m going to switch sides, I’m going to pledge fealty to Chris Martin forevermore!

What kind of fucked up world do we live in where besuited execs in the music business still believe the mainstream media counts? Most newspapers are a shadow of their former selves, and TV hasn’t put music up close and center since the eighties, when MTV ruled. Music has always lived outside the system. It’s just that fat cats like Tommy Mottola used the system to boost their bottom lines in the nineties and those in power still think this works!

Chris Martin voted amongst 20 Smuggest People by Arena magazine

SATURDAY, JULY 5

Arena magazine has voted me one of Britain’s 20 Smuggest People in a list that includes Gordon Ramsay, Ricky Gervais, Ewan McGregor, Chris Martin, Nigella Lawson and both Miliband brothers.

Unsure as to how to take this, I checked the official dictionary definition of ‘smug’ to find it is: ‘Contentedly confident of one’s ability, superiority or correctness.’

Sorry if I’m missing something here, but is that supposed to be a character flaw?

Bloated Coldplay takes Eno

Many have tried to win staring contests with the guys from Coldplay, but all have fallen to those freakishly piercing eyes and Pride Parade paramilitary uniforms.

Looking for a little artistic credibility? Bored with your sound? Ready to get serious? Call 1-800-Brian-Eno today. That’s 1-800-Brian-Eno. Our operators are standing by.

Without even waiting until it had amassed a halfway-decent-sized discography, Coldplay recently made the call. In taking a calculated shortcut to gaining respectability as A Serious Artist, the British quartet wasn’t the first band to come down with a bad case of “Now what?” The decision to make a Brian Eno album is in many ways the musical equivalent of a midlife crisis. Besides being a hipster band’s wet dream for hire, Eno is also a kind of Dr. Phil with a mixing console and actual worth. [Read more]

A lukewarm reaction to Coldplay

I liked U2 a lot more back when Bono was the lead singer.

Oh, wait. This is a new CD by Coldplay?
CD ratings
“Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends,” Coldplay (Capitol) **½

I’ve learned to keep an open mind about Coldplay. Not that I don’t try to do that with every band, but there are some bands whose discs I can expect will please me (hello, Pearl Jam) and those whose discs I expect will leave me unsatisfied (sorry, Motley Crue fans).

The Church of Chris Martin vs. coldplaying.com

Coldplaying.com (which is like a low-rent version of the Church of Chris Martin where the people DON’T EVEN REALISE THEY’RE BELIEVERS) have had an interesting thread in the discussion forum at the moment, where they make some VERY inflamitory statements. They have all sorts of misconceptions about what we do, and what’s more, their misconceptions are wrong.

I want to refute some of these hurtful statements, quoted below - [Read more]
