Gallagher blasts “ugly” Coldplay fans

Liam Gallagher has described Coldplay and Radiohead fans as “boring and ugly”.

The Oasis frontman was speaking about his favourite music in an interview with The Times when he criticised the groups.

“I’ve mellowed, but not in the sense of liking Radiohead or Coldplay,” said Gallagher. “I don’t hate them. I don’t wish they had accidents.

Some rock, pop stars sing a positive tune [Bill O'Reilly Rant]

The other night I went to see the legendary R&B group Earth, Wind and Fire at Radio City Music Hall. Toward the end of the show, lead singer Philip Bailey startled me and others in the crowd when he said: “I thank God and America for allowing us to have success for 37 years.”

Shocking.

Call me cynical, but I am used to hearing performers badmouth their country and promote things like drugs and violence. That is routine these days. People like Nas and Ludacris spit out poison like sesame seeds. That’s why it took some guts for Bailey to say what he said. In some precincts, it is cool to run down America from the stage, not to praise it. [Read more]

Liam Gallagher on celebrity, fatherhood and hating Coldplay

Liam Gallagher prefers being a stay-at-home dad these days, but he’s not lost his rock’n’roll swagger

Liam Gallagher says he and his brother “are two totally different people and the sooner people realise that the less we can go on about it”. Fair enough, but, having interviewed Noel several years ago, I can report the Gallagher boys have more in common than being in the same band and having the same mum and dad: extreme candour, for one thing. You asked Noel a question, you got a straight answer. If anything, his kid brother is even more straight-talking. Also (and I didn’t think this could be possible), Liam swears even more. [Read more]

Razorlight’s Johnny Borrell Blasts Coldplay’s New Military Look

They won’t be sporting it…

Razorlight’s Johnny Borrell Blasts Coldplay’s New Military Look

Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell has no interest in copying Coldplay when the band come back with a new look for their next album, according to reports.

Coldplay’s distressed military look, which they adopted for their latest album ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’, has been the subject of much debate.

Are Coldplay “passion killers”?

Sex Pistol frontman John Lydon thinks so. The cranky old punk recently told Scottish newspaper The Daily Record the band were “passion killers in the extreme” and “the enemy” of music everywhere.

This isn’t his first tirade aimed at the ‘biggest band in the world’ (pictured here at the Pemberton music festival in Canada last week). Backstage at the Isle of Wright festival in June, he spat:

Why Is Coldplay So Popular?

Maybe I just don’t get it. Maybe my taste in music isn’t as good as yours. Maybe my ears aren’t fine-tuned enough to recognize musical genius.

Or maybe…just maybe, Coldplay is incredibly overrated.

CRYING OVER COLDPLAY

After nothing but “terrible” reviews from the Pemberton Music Festival last weekend, invoking images of thousands of people having the time of their lives while witnessing one of the greatest concert lineups in Canadian history, we can only say we’re less disappointed than ever that Chris Martin and the Coldplay crew will not be making a stop at the ‘Dome tomorrow night as part of their Viva La Vida tour, as was originally planned when the world tour was announced.

So what if tonight’s Edmonton date and tomorrow’s Calgary show have been replaced by stops in Montreal and Toronto. [Read more]

Coldplay spreads musical wings

HP CROWD HEARS TRANSFORMED SOUND

Chris Martin just can’t make up his mind.

Not only did Coldplay have a hard time naming its just released fourth album - finally calling it “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends,” but the band’s leading man also can’t make up his mind about who exactly he wants to be, remaining fraught with insecurity despite having the No. 1- selling album in 36 countries.

“Everybody OK?”‘ he said Friday after “Violet Hill,” the single from the 20-song set the band played at HP Pavilion. [Read more]

The Future of Coldplay according to Bob Lefsetz

This snippet from Bob lefsetz was written nearly 3 years ago…

Coldplay… One has to ask, is Coldplay selling out because it’s such fantastic
music or because people need a rallying point? To feel SOME connection to the
mainstream?

But Coldplay is irrelevant. Let’s just say there will be a COUPLE of new
bands that will break through and sell tickets for a year or two (if you think
Coldplay’s gonna be doing 20,000 a night three years from now, you’re dreaming,
or else they’re going to make a quantum leap in recorded material, since “X&Y”
is so bland, so repetitive, so WEAK as to be laughable to anybody truly
listening).

Are you eating your words now…?
