“We Like Nipple Shows” Say Coldplay [XFM Broadcast Part IV]

Head here to listen to Coldplay’s best, most hilarious Residency episode yet…

Chris, Johnny and Guy turn in their most explosive Residency show yet as they turn up the heat on the Simon Pegg feud. Strip bars are also in favour, it seems…

Chris Martin, Johnny Buckland and Guy Berryman turned in their greatest performance as Xfm DJs on last Sunday’s Residency show. They mentioned strip bars, turned up the heat on their ‘feud’ with Simon Pegg and also stumbled very close to being libellous.

“We called Simon Pegg and he blatantly ignored our call”, said Chris Martin, stoking the flames of the feud that begun with the British funny man two weeks ago. “Let’s not call him at all this week. If you’ve got a DVD of Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz, take it back because that guy just doesn’t care about you and he doesn’t care about us”.

Profile: Gwyneth Paltrow - Right-on turn-off

WITH her trendy Bugaboo Stroller, yoga classes and macrobiotic diet, Gwyneth Paltrow has long been the poster girl for a certain type of London lifestyle. Not the kind enjoyed by the likes of Kate Moss, obviously. You can’t imagine Paltrow drinking till dawn, snorting coke.

No, she is the epitome of the nanny-spurning, baby-food puréeing yummy mummy: effortlessly glamorous, nutritionally-obsessed, socially aware and as dull as dishwater. While the Primrose Hill set are scandalising the neighbours, in Belsize Park, one a [Read more]

Smashing Coldplay strategy kept new EMI from being DOA

Five million reasons to smile: Jonny Buckland, Chris Martin

With EMI losing Paul McCartney, Radiohead and The Rolling Stones in quick succession, and with other acts on the label, such as Robbie Williams, threatening to go on strike, it wasn’t looking good for the famous imprint earlier this year.

Throw in the fact that EMI has been hoovered up by a private equity firm, and that a lot of the “music” people at the label had either jumped or been pushed, and there was speculation about its continuing existence.

Terra Firma (the new owner of EMI) had its first real test with the release of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida album two months ago. McCartney had left the label because he was dissatisfied with how it had marketed his last few albums. Williams was openly questioning if the downsized label could still “work” an album. Terra Firma’s other big signing, Sigur Rós, were looking on from the sidelines.

Could Terra Firma hack it in the music world? A lot would depend on how Viva La Vida was handled and how it performed. Launching a full price album into a market where the very concept of paying for music has become so debased was always going to be difficult. But, through a series of clever initiatives, the campaign behind Viva La Vida is now being hailed as one of the most successful of the last decade, and it will likely to pick up every PR/marketing/advertising award going at the end of the year.

30 Things You Never Knew About Muse

When they first headlined the second stage at V, Muse were introduced onstage by Coldplay’s Chris Martin in a hoodie. Since then Matt and Chris have regularly sent each other tongue-in-cheek ‘abusive’ text messages. ‘30 Things You Never Knew About Muse’ was written by Mark Beaumont - looks out for his book ‘Out Of This World: The Story Of Muse’, which will be published in October.

Coldplay Roadie #42 - Blog #22

#42 muses on the band’s time in Japan

Can it really be a week since we left Japan? Worse yet, I’ve not yet submitted my journals from those shows. “Jetlag” sounds far more glamourous and interesting than “couldn’t get off the sofa”, so I’m sticking with that. Somehow though, I think we all know where the truth lies.

In a nice follow-on from the previous journal, I opened my hotel room curtains in Osaka to be greeted by a building in the distance bearing the word “Yodobashi”. The very same camera shop I arrived at in Tokyo minus my credit card. Over breakfast, I enlist the permanently Leica-bearing Berryman to join me for a trip over there. I’ve managed to obtain cash and today there’s no stopping me. We both return somewhat lighter of wallet, but laden with photographic goodies. [Read more]

Chris Martin loves Girls Aloud, according to The Oracle

The all knowing Oracle gives more Coldplay hints and tips…

August 20, 2008 - submitted by Josh, United Kingdom

Q. Is Brothers & Sisters (on the Without Parachutes) really as Marxist as I think it is?

The Oracle replies:

Brothers & Sisters was a single released on Fierce Panda and was in no way Marxist! Without Parachutes is a bootleg by the way so is not an official Coldplay release.

Chris Martin’s Viva La cleaner

COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN insists he will ever smash up a hotel room – because he used to clean them.

The rocker, 31, said: “When you’re a cleaner and you walk into a trashed room, it’s truly annoying.

“All you want to do is go on your tea break – and you get faced with that.”

Chris has seen the latest Coldplay album Viva La Vida go to No 1 in more than 30 countries.

But he begged trash-happy celebs: “Spare a thought for the poor schmuck cleaning the room.”

Coldplay & nipples? The Oracle ain’t playin’

Here’s the latest Coldplay trivia, courtesy of The Oracle.

August 19, 2008 - submitted by Daniel, Mexico

Q. Dear Oracle,
Why are Coldplay corrupting my mind with images of nipples during Strawberry Swing? and this link : (edited)

The Oracle replies:

Hmmm you must all think the Oracle would not be able to see that multiple people, in the hope of it being answered, have sent in an identical question. It doesn’t work like that…
Nice try though and maybe I will answer the breast issue another day. Maybe not.
