Coldplay devastates in Barcelona

The band of Chris Martin has presented/displayed in the Catalan capital its last disc, “Viva La Vida”, in a tremendous concert

Three years ago Coldplay did not visit Barcelona in concert, excepting the exclusive one of 17 of May in the Movistar Space the past, and that has noticed in the concert that the rock band has offered east Saturday before its followers, who have taken advantage of the opportunity and have responded massively. After its pass by Germany and France in tour of presentation of its fourth disc, And lives the life death or all his friends, the British quartet, with Albert Hammond Jr. like telonero, it has made a tremendous concert of two hours that has covered the expectations with its fervent ones fans.

A Palau Sant worthy Jordi of the best evenings, the vocalista of the group, Chris Martin, it has entered scene with more than ten minutes of delay but with desire to demonstrate that the ghost of U2 has disappeared, and that the voices that affirmed that it would be a success group just a short time are vanished. The vocalista of the quartet has appeared after black gauzes that they covered the scene and with the jacket characteristic of this tour, and the sound of Coldplay has covered the Palau Sant Jordi, united almost in synchrony with the voices of all the assistants. The British band of rock has begun with the classic beginning of this tour, instruments Live in technicolor, and the public has begun his delivery continued to the group with the shout of the thousands of followers who have jammed the enclosure and who have gone to the concert ready to enjoy a matchless evening. Without truce, the first important moment has arrived at night with Violet hill, one of the acclaimed songs more of the fourth disc of the band led by Martin, Or lives the life death and all his friends, title inspired by a picture homónimo of Frida Kahlo.

After this one, the greeting in Catalan of Martin with a perfect one Bona nit (good night), and without leaving place to doubts that have come to Barcelona with desire to devastate, Coldplay has intoned the first agreed ones of one of its more famous songs, Clocks.

Their second álbum A Rush of Blood to the Head. Of this disc also they have interpreted God put to smile on your face, far from the scene and put in a corner in a lateral one, expressing the desire to connect with the public until the end not to leave any doubt that the Coldplay seal is penetrating in the Barcelonian public.

Martin has not remained here, since throughout the recital has connected with the public without rest, moving of a side for another one, pleasing themselves and pleasing followers who, not to remain back, have given itself melodías of the British group, before which the vocalista has only been able to say that there was “an incredible public”. During the evening, the band has reviewed up to eight of the ten subjects of The life lives, a disc that Coldplay wanted that it lasted of 45 minutes, conscious that the young people of nowadays do not have long time and usually listen to music in solitaire. The rotunda The life lives, Chinese sleep chant, 42, Lost and the acoustics Strawberry swing they have been some of the visited songs of the last album in the concert, and that the followers have intoned as if they were classic of the band. In a concert of these magnitudes they could not lack songs that already have become landmarks of the band of Martin, like Yellow, Fix you or Speed of sound, three subjects that the followers of Coldplay have spelled until being without voice.

After this concert, Coldplay will act east Sunday in the Palace of Deportes of Madrid, also with the exhausted entrances, to finish the pass by Spain of the tour of presentation of the disc that they published three months ago.

Tremendous concert of Coldplay in Barcelona.

For three years that Coldplay did not visit Barcelona in concert, excepting the exclusive one of 17 of May in the Movistar Space the past, and that it has been noticing in the concert that the rock band has offered today before its followers, who have taken advantage of the opportunity and have responded massively.

FIRED-UP COLE LIFTS ENGLAND

ROCK band Coldplay were playing down the road but it was Joe Cole who provided sweet music for England in Barcelona.

There might have been more people watching Chris Martin and the boys but it was vital that England found the right World Cup qualifying chords against little Andorra in front of one of the smallest crowds to have ever watched them.

Chelsea star Cole answered manager Fabio Capello’s half-time call and came up with a two-goal blast inside seven minutes.

But it was a tentative start by England in a fruitless first half.

In the stadium where Linford Christie raced to an Olympic 100 metres gold, England flew out of the blocks and were almost a goal up in 25 seconds.

That was the time it took Theo Walcott, making his first senior international start, to race down the right, Frank Lampard flicking on and Jermain Defoe looking to pick up the pieces as keeper Koldo Alvarez was tested.

The Andorrans didn’t like Defoe’s challenge and the team that had roughed up Wayne Rooney in particular in their last meeting here quickly reminded – by jostling the Portsmouth striker – that they had lost none of their physical aggression.

It had been a bold statement of intent by Capello to leave David Beckham on the bench, believing that pace on both wings from Walcott and Middlesbrough’s Stuart Downing was the formula for an easy night in Barcelona against a team ranked 186th in the world.

Taken from a report of the England match:

When was the last time Beckham was a substitute? Not that long ago, at Real Madrid — under Capello. Switching the match from Andorra to Barcelona did little for the attendance, with barely a quorum present. There were long queues outside before the kick-off — but they were for Coldplay, who were in concert next door.

Barcelona. (EFE).- it’s been 3 years since the last time that coldplay visited Barcelona, except for the past may 17th exclusive show at Espacio Movistar, and this has been noticed in the show that the rock band did today in front of their fans, which responded in a great way

After their shows in Germany and France where they were presenting their lastest album, ‘Viva la Vida and Death or All His Friends’, the british quartet, with Albert Hammond Jr. as opening act, made a great show which in 2 hours filled the expectations of their fervert fans.

In a Palau Sant Jordi as in its best nights, the singer of the band, Chris Martin, went to the stage more than 10 minutes later but looking forward to show that the U2’s ghost has been dissapeared, and that the voices which said that coldplay would be a short time success band, are waning.

The frontman appeared behind some black ¿¿ fabrics?? which were covering the stage and with the typical jacket of this tour, and the sound of Coldplay covered the Palau Sant Jordi, joined almost in synchrony with the fans’ voices.

The british rock band started the show with the classical start in this tour, with the instrumental ‘Live in Technicolor’. Later, it came the first important moment of the night, with “violet hill”, one of the most popular songs of the band’s 4th record, “Viva la vida or death and all his friends”, which title was inspired in a Frida Kahlo’s painting.

After that song, Chris Martin said hi in catalán, with a perfect “Bona nit” (good evening). Then the band played one of their most successful songs, “Clocks” of their 2nd album, A rush of blood to the head”.

from this album, they also performed ‘God Put a Smile on Your Face’, far from the stage in a side of the venue.

During the show, the band played eight of the 10 songs of Viva la vida, a record which the band wanted to have a lenght og 45 minutes.

The big “Viva la vida”, ‘Chinese Sleep Chant’, ‘42′, ‘Lost’, the acoustic ‘Strawberry Swing’, have been some of the songs of the last record performed at the show… and which the fans sang as these would be coldplay’s classic songs

In a concert of this importance, couldn’t be absent some of the coldplay’s milestones, as Yellow, Fix You or Speed of Sound… songs that the coldplay fans sang until they almost lost their voices

After the show, Coldplay will perform tomorrow at the Palacio de deportes in Madrid, with sold out tickets, to finish their spanish visit, promoting the album that they released 3 months ago.

¿Viva Coldplay? (Coldplay @ Palau Sant Jordi, 06/09/08)

The groups that are convinced that its last disc is the best one usually make notice it, dedicating the first parts of their concerts to the new material, and granting second half the classic ones (they watch Planets, for example). Groups that has doubts, or that directly they know that their last treaties are not no wonder, choose to be straining the new songs between reprtorio, so that much does not notice.

Coldplay both worlds are something as well as between: create in Alive the Life (EMI, 2008), create in its new songs, but they create - they know that his public has still not arrived until there (and he can who never does it). No, the concert of Coldplay in Barcelona has tonight not been tremendous, in fact he has been more loose than the one than gave in the Movistar Space and less coherent than the one of their previous tour (and that that at that time presented/displayed a nonsense of diso like X&Y). But that we explained it inside.

Come, we say it of first: The Life lives is not badly a disc. It is a good disc, in fact. With some very good songs. He is strange if you analyze it like the fourth work of Coldplay, but isolated of its discografía it gains enough whole numbers, really. Problem: it is necessary to put the new songs in a generational hymn repertoire for mainstream. And above with subjects (’ Lost! `, `Violet Hill `, `42 `) that sounds far better in small enclosures. How we do it, Martin?

It is necessary to prove it: an austere scene (only balls hanging of the ceiling in that images of the concert, lásers horteras to not being able more were seen, and a bottom which in short whiles it was the Alive cover of the Life and in short whiles turned a giant screen of video) and with the only two grace to have `arms `that went into between the public (of which only Chris Martin has made use with his classic histriónicos small jumps, clear).

It seems clear that, at least with this tour, Coldplay they resist to play in the league of the U2, Madonna and similars, although by repercussion and affluent pursuit they could try it. But good, that is respectable and until certain comprehensible point with an Alive disc like the Life in hand. Well, that speaks music.

Then, what we have? Two different concerts: one with the songs of the new disc, something as well as `new the Coldplay `, in which the members of the group are watched during the songs, are grouped, and seemed to enjoy pretty it; and another one with the classic ones of always, with the automatic pilot of the épica activated (’ Fix You `has been raised definitively like its great hymn, and begins to be a little cloying) except for some changes (’ Speed of Sound `sung in another tone and `God Put To Smile Upon Your Phase `with a horrorosa base chumba-chumba and in plan medley next to `Talk `- without doubt the worse moment of the concert). Then it goes…

Problem: to all we like the Coldplay of stage, is why they are so great: `In My Place `, `Yellow `, `Politik `, `Clocks `, `Fix You `, and of its new Alive disc `Vida `; but they seem not to already want to be it, judging by their last disc. Colplay cannot be a band of stage with introspectivas songs. For that already is Radiohead, and his it is the rarest exception, hear. It cannot be that in a same concert they sound `Fix You’ and the 42 tétrica `′ (of its new disc), does not beat. That is the problem. And for that reason the concert of Coldplay of tonight in Barcelona has been a hunting with memorable moments (’ Politik `continues being one of my favorites, `Alive Vida `is a jewel although soon the public repeats the damn choir over and over again) and with boring passages; than boring, outside place, more unconnected.

Clear that people will leave thinking that has been “tremendous “, because they receive what they want: to listen to singles and to sing `Fix You `to total lung as if it had not sung it anybody never in the history of the world-wide world. But a concert is something more than that, and to Coldplay it is necessary to demand to them more. What? That no longer I know it, because slight they have it mounted with its two last discs: pop of amorphous stage of X&Y and Alive the rebellious intelectualismo of the Life. By me that is dedicated to make Dont Look Backs of their two first discs, that happy that they would do to me…

P.D. What they will read in all sides (that if acoustic version of `The Scientist `in one of the launching slips, that if the medley in the middle of the public, who if the prattling Chris Martin doing efforts with his Castilian) does not make lack that explains it, so better I say to them that it had almost alongside to Pep Guardiola (trainer of the Barça) seated, completely given in `Fix You `, and that in the songs of Alive the Life escaped some to him that another one I yawn. Significant, no?

Oh MY GOSHHH

the best concert i ever seen!!!!!!

i come home right now!!

and i get the setlist, the real setlist frome the stage!!!!!! thats amazing!!! i’m soooo happy, i was at first line!!!! yeahhhh yeahhhhhhh

everything was sooooooo brilliant!!

and Guy taking pics all the time,

Chris says something about Guy a new born :s but i don’t understand it :s anyone head it??

[thanks akire_rk]

Chris dedicated a song to Guy and a new born.. they both heard the same thing

[thanks Chavi]

good! almenos I am not the unique one that the one of Guy has listened to already thought that it was pulling the leg completely… i’m not the only one who heard this… under i don’t know…

and the setlist that i writted is about the paper that they have on the stage when they are on show… but i don’t know if they make some chances.
[thanks akire_rk]

Buuuuuuuuut what I meant was something related to a friend of Guy and also a friend of the rest of the band. Nothing about Guy’s new baby. The baby was born today, if you want to know something about this new child haha.
They dedicated him (that friend) Fix You.

The concert was amazing. The audience as Chris said 10 of 10! But they were also so great. I must tell you something, for me AROBTTH and Parachutes songs sound better than X&Y songs hehe I missed my favourite one, Don’t Panic but anyway I’ve listened it before in other gigs.
I want more I want more I want more! And I’m so sad it’s over now! When they started to play Death and All his Friends I started to scream Nooooooooooooooooo! haha
Aww, please come back soon!

Oh yes but he was also taking off his pants (or doing like if he was going to do an strip tease, or that’s what I wanted my eyes to see haha) and then he stopped and said he wasn’t David Beckham.

During In In My Place, Chris said that of Johnny Boy and Johnny went to Chris, and then Chris left the small stage and went to the main one and Johnny stayed there playing his part in the song. Nothing really special. They have always done it, I saw the same in 2002 hehe

The newspaper thing, it says they were brilliant but as always Coldplay is compared to U2, meh. Great beginning, people singing, the best thing when they played The Scientist in the harrow… And that they are in their best moment, by now.

18.000 people watching Coldplay last night in Barcelona. It was sold out months ago.

[thanks Evori]

And postcards from far away was played only piano by Chris, without lyrics… and I think it was just about 30 seconds. The only football mention was when Chris took off his jacket and the people whistled, then he said he wasn’t David Beckham.

[thanks ellis]

one word - superb

i have more

i loved it when chris opened up and said MOLT BE

[thanks bart]

España

Palacio de Deportes, Madrid, Spain.

Block 12, Room 8, Seat no. 3.

12:10pm.

The venue is a building site. There are hard hats, reflective jackets and hand signals across the floor. Stage trucks reversing in. Confetti cannons, lasers, fans, speaker stacks, motors, inflatable spheres, more lights and more speakers, all ready to be lifted above the stage when the rigging goes up. When a show gets this big, it’s a long time before you see any instruments!

I can now see one of the catwalks being assembled, which will later see Chris Martin walking into the waiting crowds (who are already sitting patiently outside..)

It was my first time working with Intermon Oxfam last night, in Barcelona. It was a pleasure to work with such a happy bunch. The show was a great prize for all their hard work. The atmosphere in Europe is raising the bar even higher, and the band seem to be savouring the challenge of living up to fever pitch expectation. The crowd were still singing that famous ‘Viva’ chorus long after the show closed in that Yellow lit arena. It once hosted the gymnastics at the 1992 Olympics. It was a very different spectacle last night.

Intermon Oxfam was collecting names in support of a fair trade deal. Those people who gave their voice last night, will join those voices tonight in pressuring the Spanish government. It’s a great feeling watching someone stop and listen to one of our volunteers. Take a moment to think about how they can be part of our work. Grab the pen and start signing. Walk away with a smile on their face, and go to enjoy the show. Coldplay make that possible, by inviting us here. The volunteers put the opportunity into action. And the people that stop, are the ones that make it happen.

Here comes another truck full of equipment..

By the way.. I’m pretty sure the Coldplay show made a lot more noise than the football last night.. One of the truck drivers skipped sleep to go and see the football, and said he should have chosen sleep instead!

A TEAM of Englishmen put in a cracking performance in Barcelona on Saturday – and left with the screams of a delighted crowd ringing in their ears.
But they weren’t playing on a football pitch.

It was CHRIS MARTIN’s COLDPLAY — not FABIO CAPELLO’s England — who hit top form in Spain.

This was despite Coldplay postponing their show for an hour so they could watch JOE COLE and Co play.

The band were at the city’s Palau Sant Jordi arena right next door to the Olympic Stadium where England started their World Cup qualifying campaign.

In fine form … Chris Martin out-performed England in Barcelona

But holding up their show to watch England’s drab match didn’t dampen their spirits. While England stuttered to a win against minnows Andorra, the rockers’ victorious outing was far more convincing.

A source revealed: “The band were chuffed when they realised they were playing next to the England match and had to get tickets. They even postponed their show by an hour so they could watch the game.

“But when they did get on stage, their performance kicked England’s into touch.”

Many fans deserted the World Cup qualifying match after a goal-less first half to catch their rock idols’ gig. But they were unaware they did not need to rush, as the band were also taking in the football.

And when the show finally did start, Coldplay received a louder reception than any of the football stars.

Fans must have been saving their voices because rock anthem Viva La Vida sparked a far louder singalong than the national anthem nearby.

And Chris told the Spanish crowd: “Thanks for putting up with all the England fans today.”

The band’s world tour — which hits the UK in December — is really flying now and Saturday’s gig was simply superb.

With their all-conquering Viva La Vida album breaking records around the globe, they have been hailed the world’s biggest band.

Joked

But backstage in Barcelona, Chris said he was only keeping the crown warm for BONO.

He joked: “It’s only because U2 delayed putting their album out.”

And he put their incredible success down to a change in music fans’ taste — and said people are choosing substance over style again.

Chris added: “It doesn’t matter now whether music is cool or not. People will buy it if they like it.”

Coldplay entertained the crowd with flair and passion, so at least some English fans left Barcelona having watched their heroes at the top of their game.

But if you watched the less inspiring performance from the football stars next door then don’t worry, it could be worse.

You could have lost to Macedonia.
