Coldplay Chart Movements: Viva La Vida (album and single news)

Updated to August, 12th 2008

News of this week:
Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends still increases its share of sales. Thanks to the results obtained last week (+ 219,000 copies sold), the number of total sales of the new Coldplay album is 4,332,220 copies purchased. The success has involved even Uruguay: the official data show an excellent 3 rd place in the ranking of the best-selling album. Strikers also positive in the USA (+ 70,000 copies), Brazil (now copies sold are 45,000), France (an increase of 14,446 copies sold brings the total computation at 175,896) and Australia (146,482).

The single Viva La Vida continues its dazzling path: this week also charts of Thailand (19 th), South Africa (28 th position), Mexico (position 52), Korea (31 th) and Colombia (80 th position ) know its name.

Even Violet Hill is not the end of surprising, given that entered for the first time in the individual standings Korea directly to 31 ° place.

The aura of success of Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends also pushes the sales of publications before. With great surprise in this respect, we are happy to inform you that Live 2003 DVD came to touch the 16 st place in Argentina in the ranking of most DVDs purchased.

With Viva la Vida Or Death And All His Friends, Coldplay beat every record in sales. It was announced as the most awaited album of 2008, and the single Violet Hill, made available for free from the official site of the band, was downloaded by 2.060.000 people.
In the first week, the fourth album has reached the first position in 20 countries no less and it has become the best selling release on iTunes till now.
Moreover, it has been the most wanted, booked and pre-ordered album on online sale websites, such as Amazon, HMV.com and Play.com.
On June 23rd 2008, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends has become part of the international music scene by rights, because the second single Viva La Vida scored the Number 1 both in UK and US, beating the record held by Rod Stewart in 1971 with the song ‘Maggie May’.
On July 3rd 2008, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends set another world record, becoming officially the top selling album in the history of digital sales. In only two weeks, the new work of Chris Martin’s band has sold 354,000 digital copies, beating the record held by the album of John Mayer, Continuum (353,000 downloads since its release in September 2006).
The sales have been so huge that the track album Lost!, strongly indicated to be the third single from the album after Violet Hill and Viva La Vida, even though not officially until now, has obtained a ranking in the most-wanted singles chart in UK and in Mediabase Alternative Chart.
Also other tracks, such as Life In Technicolor, Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love, Yes and Cemeteries Of London have ‘entered’ some national charts.
