Kasabian Headline Creamfields 2008 [Nettie Report]

My pictures are here and here’s quick review..

Drove up to Creamfields yesterday afternoon and got there about 5pm and I just walked to the barrier. That was weird…

What peeps were doing was, as soon as the last band finished, they’d walk off to wherever. The front of stage was a bit of a mudbath, but not as bad as what was going on at last year’s Glastonbury.
The first band I saw was Nile Rogers and The Chic Collective. These guys have been around for years and they played all the old hits of the ’70s like ‘We Are Family’, ‘Le Freak’ and ‘Good Times’. Geez, they were amazing! The bassist of that band is a legend. His was knocking out these fantastic basslines and everyone was getting their groove on. Nile Rodgers penned a lot of hits for bands like Sister Sledge and he even wrote ‘Upside Down’, sung by Diana Ross. There were these two women who sang the main vocals. The were dressed like disco divas and could really belt it out. It was such a tight, entertaining show.

Next up was Soulwax, who were really good and kept the crowd dancing with their electro beats. The drummer was a nutter and he broke his foot pedal, which was changed as he was still playing! Now that’s professionalism.

When Kasabian came on, the crowd were really up for it and they did an amazing job - as usual. Every show I see them at they get better and better. They did get bottled but very very slightly. Tom narrowly missed a flying object and Serge kicked a full bottle of beer off the stage, which missed me by inches….LOL!!!!! That right foot of his is lethal!

The lighting was superb. I was able to get some really good pictures and video. I’m loving ‘Fire’ more and more. I like how the time signature changes back and forth from the mellow groove to the upbeat tempo. It’s a great song and ‘Fast Fuse’ was off the chain. Their set was amazing, with diagonal frames, which became video screens during LSF. You saw giant Chris’ and Serges’ in blue and red hues. The lasers were magical. I couldn’t stop turning my head around to see them shining in the sky. Tom cracked me up during ‘Butcher Blues’ by singing ‘Standing with all the pussy and cannibals’. It’s a shame I didn’t film that. That man is just too funny. ‘Doberman’ was fantastic and also ‘Stuntman’ and ‘Sun Rise/Light Flies’. Serge did a great job with ‘Me Plus One’ and ‘Empire’ had everyone jumping about.

Tom kept goading the crowd by saying ‘Come on you ravers!’ He didn’t seem satisfied by their efforts and wanted to whip everyone into a frenzy.

All in all the band did a great job and it was well worth the drive up there. I didn’t get home until 3am!
