Keira still loves us

Television host prefers Yanks to UK guys

Cheer Up guys, it’s not all gloom. Homegrown film star Keira Knightley, 23, loves us for our lack of vanity.

Keira, who dates UK actor Rupert Friend, 26, said: “Ask a Brit what his beauty regime is and he’ll say, ‘Er, Guinness?’. I like that.” Paris Hilton, 27, said she loves our “cute accents and manners”.

And US actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 35, wife of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, 31, said: “Brits are more intelligent and civilised than Americans. They talk about interesting things at dinner.”

Coldplay Roadie #42 - Blog #23

Like the school summer holidays, our three weeks at home went all too fast. In many ways, starting again at the BBC is perfectly consistent with the “back to school” analogy. The BBC has that wonderful institutional feel, a similar must and polish smell and a strict adherence to regulations that is at first mildly annoying, but eventually becomes quite endearing.

We’re at the BBC Radio Theatre today, in the West End, which I’d guess holds around 250 people.  The stage is undoubtedly the smallest space we’ve tried to fit the gear into on this tour so far. There’s a good deal of juggling and repositioning until it all begins to make sense. The soundcheck is a relaxed affair, with Chris dropping into Gravity (as per 24th June 2003 in the Timeline) at the piano for a brief moment. Chances of this making it into the set are well below slim I’d say, as Jonny didn’t even recognise it and Chris couldn’t remember half the chords. I’ve always loved that track myself though. Easily the best song they’ve never released!

Prospekt’s March EP: A Christmas Release For Coldplay

Yesterday two of the biggest bands in the world went head to head on BBC 6music as Coldplay chatted to REM’s Michael Stipe live in the studio with Steve Lamacq.

Following reports that Coldplay planned to release a record this year it fell on Stipe to get to the bottom of the rumours: “Is it true?” he asked. To which Martin replied: “We’re going to put an EP out at Christmas called Prospekt’s March on 26th December and we’re going to release an album next December to end the decade.”

Martin then turned to Will Champion and asked: “Is it [the EP] called Prospekt’s March or Prospekt’s Song?” Before adding: “Lets ask Michael Stipe!”

Nettie gains audience with The Oracle

I met The Oracle yesterday. I was told that my questions had been received, but as Morpheus says in The Matrix “The answers are coming…”. That’s good enough for me!

In the meantime, here are more answered questions….

August 29, 2008 - submitted by Simon, Netherlands

Q. Why did Coldplay wrote an Ode to Deodorant?

The Oracle replies:

Your question seems imply that you think Ode to Deodorant was a joke. I know that the lyrics do seem a little whimsical but I can assure you it was a serious composition. It would be like asking why Coldplay wrote Yellow? They just did.

Life after Coldplay

The dust may have finally settled in the rainy days of late August but the summer of 2008 will be remembered for a long time to come in the Pemberton Valley.

Despite all the publicity and advance planning the Pemberton Music Festival still caught the region by surprise.

Everyone you talk to had a favourite performer — Coldplay, Jay-Z and Tom Petty all brought out different crowds — and a horror story to tell. The whole weekend was one long lesson in the cause and effect of supply and demand. The endless traffic line-up on the Sea to Sky Highway looked like a scene out of Jean-Luc Godard’s Weekend. Everybody going nowhere fast.

Coldplay @ BBC Radio Theatre, London 30/08/2008 [Nettiereport]

A.k.a when a shitty day turns into a fabulous one!

I had to work today, which sucked loads. I was hoping to get the day off so I could get down to the BBC Radio Theatre in time to see Coldplay arriving, but alas due to work [and other bogus mishaps], I got there too late…

When I did get there, there were a few autograph hunters - you know, the ones that sell their signed pictures on eBay [shock, horror!] and two other diehard Coldplay fans [Hey Jeff and Maria!]. [Read more]
