After nothing but “terrible” reviews from the Pemberton Music Festival last weekend, invoking images of thousands of people having the time of their lives while witnessing one of the greatest concert lineups in Canadian history, we can only say we’re less disappointed than ever that Chris Martin and the Coldplay crew will not be making a stop at the ‘Dome tomorrow night as part of their Viva La Vida tour, as was originally planned when the world tour was announced.

So what if tonight’s Edmonton date and tomorrow’s Calgary show have been replaced by stops in Montreal and Toronto.

We all know those little towns to the east don’t get enough love anyway.

While Coldplay waited until 10:20 p.m. on the third and final night of the festival to take the stage and unleash their infectious melodies on the 40,000 festival-goers high in the mountains northwest of Whistler, it was a set said to be one for the record books, complete with music old and new, the amazing Mount Currie set in the background and West Coast stars twinkling in the sky.

But while we’re griping, we’ll also point out that rave reviews were had for Pemberton performances from Tom Petty on Saturday and Nine Inch Nails on Friday — two acts that are in fact on their way to the ‘Dome very soon — Petty on Aug. 11 and Nine Inch Nails playing tonight.
