Bringing you all that cool and happening in Coldplayland. Viva La Vida Baby!

Coldplay @ Wachovia Center, Philadelphia 25/07/08 [Reviews/Setlist/Pictures/Video]

Pictures from Friday’s Philly show are here [including some brilliant ones by Rob Wanenchak - including the above...]. Reviews/Videos below…

All in all, a fantastic show. I didn’t much care for the 2nd opening act… the first guy was good, though he didn’t really have the crowd’s attention.

God Put a Smile Upon Your Face was incredible. It was this odd techno version, but they pulled it off, to make it one of those unforgettable concert pieces. It was rather brilliant.
The 2nd encore was very nice, too, and clearly unplanned. Chris seemed to genuinely enjoy the night and the crowd, shown through various lyric changes (”Japan and Philadelphia all lit up” in Speed of Sound, and “Give me time, give us a kiss, what a way to spend Friday night like this” in Politik).
Will singing on Death Will Never Conquer was awesome, too. Chris played the harmonica, and, afterward, was handed a beer, to which he sniffed it, sneered, and gave it back. Very funny.
It was an unforgettable night, every aspect of it. Can’t wait to see them back!

Dear Coldplay fanatics:

I just had the best night of my life so far. I’ve had tickets for the show here in my city (Philly) for a while now… and I must admit they were pretty bad seats. 205, nosebleed, drunks everywhere, etc. But still, it was going to be fun and I’ve seen them before so it was no big deal.
Anyway after the first opener this girl comes up to where my best friend and I were sitting and asks us if we were big Coldplay fans. Duh, lady. Then she tells us to prove it and sing a song. My mind is blank, so I sing Yellow, terribly. Then she says, “Do you know what Coldplay does for their fans for every show?” and we honestly have no idea, so she goes “They buy out the first three rows of the floor and give them away to their biggest fans.” And at this point I’m starting to hyperventilate and my hands are shaking as she pulls a wad of tickets out of her bag. She then says, “You guys are being relocated to the 1st row. Can I have your old tickets?”
I needed to brag about this to people who would appreciate it the most, and who would understand just how effing awesome that whole experience was. We went from seeing tiny specks on a big stage to seeing Chris’ spit flying as he sung, and Johnny and Will and Guy just being adorable.

P.S. The concert was absolutely amazing, wherever you may have been sitting or standing or dancing in the aisles. Fantastic as usual.

HONESTLY I wish I could give you some kind of insider info on how to score those tix but seriously it was fate of the highest degree. I don’t really know what that means but you get the idea haha. I’m still in shock. Was it a dream?! ahhhhhhhhhhh

Thanks mardi_rouge/ColdplayLJ

fragilentity says…

I was there too! I was in 206. I didn’t mind my seats — it’s all about the music. The concert ended kinda weird though! What was with that weird hillbilly song they ended with? LOL. But yeah, other than that it was the best night of my life!!!

Viva la vida!

seeing Chris’ spit flying as he sung

My friend calls that “sweat-flicking distance”.

*swoon*

Last night Erica and I - along with our good friends Jake and Kim - trekked into Philly to see Chris Martin and his band of merry men otherwise known as Coldplay.

Before going to the venue, we headed into Philly to get some eats. A tip from the locals sent us to Paxia, a mexican BYOB place on the corner of 8th and Christian. (Jake and Kim were fascinated by the BYOB thing…as were some of my family when they visited from MA. is this a Pennsylvania thing? Restaurants that don’t have liquor licenses so they let you bring your own alcohol? I’m not sure)

Anyway, we didnt have any B to BYO, but we did get a few appetizers and entrees. The food was decent. Appetizers were better than the entrees. I’m telling you this in the blog, because I’m not the type of person to tell a waiter “Ehhh, it was just ok”. Jake on the other hand, is that type of person. He told our waiter “the chicken was dry”, which made us all uncomfortable. So we, in turn, gave Jake a hard time about it for the rest of the night, even though there’s nothing wrong with being honest with your waiter…or is there??

Anyway, onto the show, which was great. Here’s Erica and I in Section 109 of the Wachovia Center, waiting for the show to begin. (you can even click on these pictures to see them bigger, just in case you need a larger shot of me looking like a crazy-eyed madman)

If you must know, tickets were just over $100 each for our seats. Yeah, kinda steep i guess. Apparently if you wanted to purchase a men’s t-shirt it was $40. Women’s t-shirts were $35. Programs for the night were $20. Parking at the Wach was $12. Thinking pleasant thoughts about Coldplay set you back $10. They even charged you to say the name “Coldplay” - $1.99 for the first 5 mentions, 10 cents for each additional mention. Ridiculous.

What can i say about the show? Well, I loved it. The setlist included most of the songs I wanted to hear. (except I would have loved “talk” from X&Y). They played a bunch from their new album, which was a good thing. And they closed the show with “Lovers in Japan” and “Death and All his friends”, which are probably my two favorite songs on Viva La Vida, so i went home happy. (if you’re curious about the setlist, it was similar to this.)

Here’s our view of the stage. Apparently I shot this picture right as Chris Martin was performing cold fusion with uranium atoms.

All in all, great night. Really was. We even got out of the parking lot in under 5 minutes.

In fact, it would have been perfect if it wasn’t for that dry chicken. Oh well.

http://bryanallain.com/blog//

The sound was A+. Chris, with his hair longer, reminiscent of 2002, resembled a Dickensian urchin. Albeit a 6 foot urchin. I have a few grunbles with the light show, but nothing bad to say about the band’s performance.

I was in section 115. I got the ticket at the box office on the night. 17 rows from the stage. The seat wasn’t available yesterday. Tonight it was. No Tickemaster fees. It’s not that often I get to pay the price on the ticket.

[Thanks Ron]

what a great concert they played a lot of the new songs play yellow, clocks, smile on ur face, green eyes, politik, scientist, and Will sang. they played in sec 105 out with the people… It was great

[Thanks KEEK1]

Great show, cant remember off hand the exact setlist,(the only one i remember they didnt play was trouble oh and dont panic) death and all his friends was great though. scientist acoustic in the crowd with chris martin refusing beer. great show. this was my second time seeing coldplay live can’t wait to see them again.

[thanks nobodyseditwaseasy08]

The opening acts were awful. The first guy wasn’t that bad, would have been better acoustic, but that second band from Miami or w/e was just irritating beyond anything.

The butterfly confetti was AWESOME especially the second round in UV.

I loved being maybe one of 5 people singing Will’s song, and a bunch of the other ones actually. It seemed like everyone was there to listen to Yellow and Viva La Vida.

Setlist was good, I would have loved to have seen longer songs, more drawn out like on the 03 tour. Everything is really quick paced now, its intense. There wasn’t Trouble But they did have Green eyes! And yeah hahah that was funny with Chris smelling the beer and refusing it.

Ohh god what did they do to God Put a Smile Upon Your Face??

Politik!!! Unexpected!! AMAZING!!!!

Lasers! were AWESOME!!!!!

Overall great show, its a new Coldplay, god bless the Live 2003 DVD.

[thanks Xavipheus]

absouluty AMAZING!!!! Let me tell you guys my story. I was coming from new york and took a bus from manhatten down here to philly. I got here at around 1030 and checked in. So i checked out the city got some pizza and went stalking. My dad and i got to the wachovia center at about 130 where we saw a black suv pulling in to the side of the wachovia center. Two of the bum security guards told us it wasnt coldplay but it definatly was because it was confirmed with the man at the private entrance booth. So then kinda bummed i went back to the hotel. We headed back to wachovia at around 430 with 500 USA still loves Coldplay signs in hand. We met up with ColdplayJoe, and Jasmyne and her mom. Then i went into the box office and found out that floor seats were still available. I was like HO-LY-SHIT! My dad bought two tickets at face in floor 5 row 6. Allright this is where it gets TOO GOOD TOO BE TRUE! Iwalk inside with my signs to find that there is a barrier and security guards between the bar and ood court and the seats. So i go over to the security guard. Let me remind you i am 13. And talk him into letting me go in to put out signs myself. I said i was with oxfam which i was. So i walk all the way down to the floor and security guards start moving out of my way like im a big star. I was the only person in the whole arena besidesthe workers. It was amazing. I got flyers all over the place the whole floor was covered with signs thanks to joe jasmyne her mom dave and me. It was too great. And i got the worker to let me put a sign on the catwalk that said sean oconnell loves coldplay.a big head security guy took it off. THE SHOW? KICKED ASS!!! best coldplay show of all time and you can quote me. LOVERS IN JAPAN WITH THE BUTTERFLY CONFETTI. POLITIK WAS NAILED THE CROWD WAS ELECTRIC DEFINITLY THE BEST SHOW.

[thanks professa95]

Abbrev version is it was a fantastic show. We got green eyes in encore plus politik!!!! Which as off the hook. We also got THE DUBLINERS loud and clear to end the night and I think they must have worked on it because it seemed longer. Also got ddahf as encore. For upper seats we got beautiful scientist and will singing dwnc. The confetti rocked my world as did the vids of the guys durung Yes. Oh and we did get this cool piano ending to politik! Chris seemed happy bit he didn’t utilize the catwalks much tonight. He also apologized for moving the concert date.

As usual they played everything from vlv except COL. We got SOS and fix you from X and Y and only yellow from parachutes. Straberry swing was cool to hear live but no one around me knew it. Freakin hate that. Learn the other songs people besides Yellow. Fix you was nice. Chris didn’t even have to sing the end at all as the crowd did.

Oh fyi, floor seats suck unless you’re up close. You can’t see jack unless you stand on a chair and then you just piss everyone off. (Sorry everyone).

I have to say after having been to the today show and being so close it was hard to top that but it really is cool to hear the new stuff live has anyone mentioned the funny “talk” video before encore.

[thanks ccg]

i reached the show after 4.Before we were allowed into the show into arena like at 7 i took a photo of mine outside the arena before going in.

and then my god you know where my seats are?????in sec 116 row 12 seats 10-9 with my hubby yeah just next to the stage. And i took videos upto scientist but shit my camera’s memory card was finished after that because even though there are batteries i am unable to take pics and vids furthur.

well any way i think Chris said sorry for resheduling this date and said something like it is his fault,he fucked up,and they have to do some nose jobs.

And he came near us a lot of times again waved at us to cheer us,
said that we are an amazing audience.

I took a lot of videos Yes,42,chinese sleep chant ,gpasuyf, fix you, speed of sound, yellow, scientist(memory card was over and it was finished),clocks,in my place, strawberry swing, lost and some pics too.

i’ll post all of them.

and yeah i am also a member of sign gang and printed some copies of signs and gave them to the people who sat in my section and the people front of me and i held the signs.i didn’t looked at others, because i am so lost watching the show.

And yeah Chris said that we’re very good audience and our reception of them in Philly is great.

and i also sanged along with Chris for most of the songs.

he said that our singing is great.

that’s all.

[thanks Pallavi]

Ok for being my first ever coldplay concert, I can’t believe what I just saw. That has to be the best concert I have ever been to in my life. The band was definitily ON the whole night! Big shoutout to the sign gang becuase the band really really appreciated it, I’ve never seen all 4 of them bow together like that at the end of the show in any live vid I have ever seen. BTW, a security guard gave the girl next to me a copy of the setlist like 2 songs in so that was a special treat . Politik and Green Eyes were NOT on the list, but the rest of the encores were. Too bad I didn’t get to keep the list but I was too nice to ask her to let me have it. (Interesting side story, she and her girlfriend were very very hot lesbians and they were feeling each other up and dancing with each other the whole night , hot lesbians and Coldplay, how can you beat that hahahaha)

Anyway, I had such an amazing view, too bad I only got a little bit of Violet Hill on camera (I couldn’t hold the camera up all night and enjoy the concert). I was right at the end of the left stage leg. Johnny came all the way out and ROCKED In My Place(Chris said “I think we have our first live single” at the end of the song so hopefully they will release that part if not all of the concert). They all ran past me to get the back of the arena to play an acoustic version of the scientist and death will never conquer with Will singing of course.

All I can say if they don’t release a live recording of that concert or a video, they are killing themselves becuase that was an AMAZING performance. No f’ing Warning Sign tho, what gives? Its easily one of their top 5 songs and they never play it…EVER.. .

Overall, best live performance ever and the bar is exxxxxxxxxxtremely high for next weekend in DC. I don’t know how DC is supposed to live up to the kind of fans Philly has. Most people were singing their heads off. Kinda funny people stopped clapping halfway through strawberry swing tho, I tried to keep them going but no dice. Thanks to Coldplay and the sign gang for a great night!!!!!!!!

[thanks ColdplayInMyBrain]

Chris also gave the “rules of the encore” courtesy of Sir Paul McCartney. He also joked before Death Will Never Conquer that they were going to do something only Genesis had tried before, make the drummer the singer.

I thought Polotik was the best song of the evening. I loved the butterfly confetti! I got a ton of it!

The Coldplay Sign Gang kicked ass. We covered the whole floor. I was a bit dissapointed that not nearly as many people as I hoped held up their signs. Thanks for all of your help everyone. It was good to see you all.

I am looking forward to seeing them in DC next week.

[thanks jasmynebirch]

Ok, tryin to upload videos on YouTube (never done it before, it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r!) but they’re better than my blurry pics…stupid camera!!!

Here are pics anyway…a couple of semi-decent ones, but don’t know how to stick into this message…argh…sorry.

Ok as for last night–Was actually able to meet up before show with Jbella and jasmynebirch HIII(and alsomusicman1990, i think)and put some signs on the floor seats. Though I’m not sure too many people held them up duing encore

Show was of course, incredible. Though for some reason I couldn’t get relaxed & totally into it until about half way through. But that’s just me…so focused on taking pictures, and checking off songs from my mental setlist, that I was missing the show! But once Yellow started, forget it!!!! I just thought to the first time I heard it live back in ‘03, and how it still sounds beautiful every.single.time.

After that I sorta forgot about which songs were coming, and was surprised and delighted with each one that came next. I got all emotional for The Scientist–still gets me–and went crrazy for Politik! totally forgot that it’s back in show, i f$@&%* love that song live! Also, didn’t think they’d do TWO encores. I thought that Green Eyes and The Dubliners was gonna be a special one(two)time thing for Chicago. I felt so smurt singing along to the little chorus, . So the show in the end didn’t feel short, as I usually feel after seeing Coldplay.

But I did IMMEDIATELY went into withdrawal…and my first thought as the houselights came back on was….OMG now I gotta wait until OCT to see again!! No, I want more NOOOOW!(I know, I’m spoiled, some people only get to see them one time, and here I am bitchin’ about just waiting until the next time). But Coldplay is THAT addictive, and Live it’s just the purest form of the drug LOL. HELP!

Though Chris wasn’t as chatty as he usually is, and they didn’t use those catwalk/ramps much, there were some funny moments. Early on in the show, maybe during In MY Place, there was the customary manly show of affection toward Jonny, and then dropping to the floor right in front of him at the end, so that poor Jonny’s gotta help Chris back up hehe. Chris apologized for the postpontment of the show, saying that they were told that they should all get nose jobs and it was scheduled for the date back in June (paraphrasing). Also the whole explanation of the encore–”now we’re gonna leave, but not really so you gotta yell really loud for us to come back, ’cause we could leave, then come back and play one more song, and then really leave. Or maybe not.” (again something to that effect) Oh and right before Yellow, he said something like this is a song for those of you who remember it from 1971 when we first started…(and my friend was like, what 1971?, did he get that wrong?? LOL She’s not used to Chris’s sense of humor!)

So, in conclusion , Chris, Guy, Jonny, Will, have put on an awesome show once again. That was my 7th! time seeing them, and it never disappoints, and I can never get enough. THANK YOU COLDPLAY!!! and thank you to the awesome crowd that always make it so much fun to be a part of the fandom

[thanks CookyMnstr]

Coldplay’s palate pleasers charm Wachovia crowd

The world’s most palatable rock-and-roll band came to the sold-out Wachovia Center in South Philadelphia on Friday, working hard to please.

An hour and half spent with Coldplay is like enjoying a light summer meal, spread out on the lawn on a humidity-free late July evening. Chris Martin and his bandmates make for mildly engaging company, and even when they aim lasers to the rafters, the bombast goes down easy. Airy melodies carry the day, and it never threatens to become a hot and sticky situation.

At the Wachovia, the British foursome - which includes guitarist Jonny Buckman, bass player Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion - took the stage half-obscured behind a scrim, with Martin strumming an acoustic guitar on “Life in Technicolor,” the vaguely exotic instrumental that leads off the band’s formula-tweaking fourth album, Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends.

Then, the curtain came up to reveal the backdrop of Eugene Delacroix’s bare-breasted Liberty Leading The People - nudity, at a Coldplay show! - and the arena-sized entertainment began.

Sporting the silly blue and red military outfits that signal they’re all on the same soft-rock team, the foursome kicked off with “Violet Hill,” the dark and stormy first single off the Brian Eno-produced Vida. The rockers then proceeded to march through agreeable past hits like the mass singalong “Yellow” and momentum-gathering “Speed of Sound.” They also performed nearly all of Vida, the album that moved more than 700,000 copies in its first week of release.

Martin is a high-energy, ingratiating performer whose music is in its comfort zone when he’s bouncing on his piano stool on pulsing songs like “Clocks,” with verses that can’t help but hurry toward anthemic choruses before settling down to share intimate confidences. If you pay too close attention to the lyrics on ballads like “Fix You” and “The Scientist,” you might think you had wandered into a Hallmark-card pep rally.

And although the band’s tendency toward grandiosity can’t help but come off as U2-lite, Martin’s self-deprecating charm diminishes the cloying quotient. “Even objectively, this is a tremendous reception, and we’re incredibly grateful,” the well-spoken rock star told the crowd.

And to prove that Coldplay is a band of the people, the foursome closed the set with two acoustic songs played in the midst of the crowd, including a quite lovely “Death Will Never Conquer,” sung by Champion. That interlude went so well that Martin received several fist-bump congratulations from fans. “Don’t tell Fox News!” he quipped.

Mount Airy-raised Santi White - who has risen to ultimate hipster status as Santogold - warmed up with a half-hour set that did its best to connect with a half-full house. The Brooklyn-based White fronted an eight-member ensemble that expertly navigated the New Wave, dub, reggae and electro-pop textures of her Santogold debut. It wasn’t her crowd, but White was greeted warmly enough by the audience, even if she had to shout “Philadelphia!” twice to get a response that “sounds like my hometown.”

Singer-songwriter Jonah Delso - from Westhampton, Burlington County - won a WMMR-FM (93.3) contest to open the show. Delso did 20 solidly crafted minutes of piano-cushioned pop songs like “Elevator” and “Before I Go Away” that dovetailed nicely with the unfailingly pleasant sounds of the headliner.

Coldplay Bring the Bombast

Images J.I. would like to think we are pretty open minded, and jaded as we might be, we’re not music snobs – if we get drunk and nostalgic enough, we can karaoke “American Pie” from start to finish. So when last minute Coldplay tickets came along, we decided to live in the moment and hopped on a train headed for Philly.

You see, we’ve never been big Coldplay fans. We don’t dislike them, per se, and we think they serve as great background music in one of our favorite movies (the deliciously snarky Igby Goes Down). But we never quite got the mass appeal, either.

Perennial J.I. fave Santogold opened the show, and after a lackluster SummerStage performance last week, totally redeemed herself. The addition of a full band, as opposed to the DJ and dancers she performed with previously, filled out her sound and her seem more like a real group and less like a hipster karaoke act. Unfortunately, the Coldplay crowd didn’t really seem to get her; she wasn’t booed, but she was met with plenty of shrugs.

While Santogold might have been met with ambivalence, Coldplay were met with an outpouring of support from the sold out arena. J.I. has always respected bands that take their job as entertainers and performers seriously; while we’re not big Bon Jovi fans, we admire their respect for their fans and their determination to provide a memorable night. Coldplay, much like a U2, are in the same vein – they bring the bombast, and act like they genuinely want to give the assembled masses a good time. From the opener, “Violet Hill,” to the hits from their previous albums, the band was tight, energetic, and true showmen.

We probably won’t be running for the president of the Coldplay fan club any time soon; the songs did begin to blend in to one another, and something still leaves us a little cold. But the show did provide us with a newfound admiration for a band that takes their craft very seriously.

Coldplay Hot, Openers Not

Saturday night I didn’t sit in for Coldplay’s delayed visit to Philadelphia’s Wachovia Center. I stood. The entire time. Coldplay’s brand of rock, which escalates from melodic to anthemic, was perfect for enthusing a crowd eager to hear some good music. I was eager to hear Coldplay from the moment I got the tickets. I got online within the first minutes and still landed back in section 213.

But when I tell you that I heard perhaps the worst set of opening acts I’ve ever witnessed in my concert-going repertoire, I do not exaggerate. So let’s get the bad vibes out of the way before we talk about the main event.

Opening the show was 93.3 WMMR-contest-winner Jonah Delso and his band. I knew from the introduction we were in for a little bit of an ego-trip as he said “I’m Jonah Delso, and this is my band.” Isn’t that how Genesis split up? “I’m Phil Collins, and this is my band,” and then off goes Peter Gabriel? Poor chaps. Or maybe they were lucky in the sense that we can’t tie their names to this performance. Anyway, the way this garage band got up on such a grand stage was through a video they sent in to WMMR. The video was voted (from online poll) into the top three of those submitted, and then Coldplay picked the winner. I have not seen the field Mr. Delso was competing with, so I can’t make a full analysis there. What I will say is that they put out more destructive feedback than a bad psychiatrist convention. The lyrics were dull and uninspired pop/rock. The band was musically okay, but Delso was not. It was formulaic, and maybe Coldplay picked them because they had a piano? Not my question to answer.

After that rather iffy experience, and a small break with the lights on, I and the thousands of others left in the arena saw a group of white shirt, black pants individuals walk out. It was something like the Robert Palmer backup girls from “Addicted to Love,” but throw in some Clockwork Orange. I was interested, very much so. Techno, club, trance maybe? Bring it on! It turned out to be Philadelphian Santi White, better known as Santogold. Another bad start let loose, as she sang the whole first song apparently without monitor support. Her strained wailing (which her set confided to be her style) was so off-key I think maybe–just maybe–my ears actually cried. Every song’s completion was followed by earnest hope that her trance-hop punk self would trot off stage. She even made the audience aware of the monitor’s problem, which just gets me going to no end. As a performer (of a different type admittedly), rule number one is that if the audience doesn’t know it’s a problem, you don’t let them know there’s a problem. If Delso had an ego, Santogold made him look tame. You know it’s bad when an opener tells you “It’s my job to pump you up.” Mission from-thereon-out thoroughly unaccomplished. I know my entire section was mock-clapping for her followed by calls of “What?” and “Get off, where’s my Coldplay!”

That unpleasantness out of our systems, Coldplay took stage at 9:30 p.m. Glory of glories, it was finally here. The concert was originally scheduled for late June, but they had to postpone. Later front man Chris Martin would make a joke of the delay, noting that the band had mandatory nose job appointments. The stage was interesting from the moment I walked into the arena. Giant white spheres hanging in the rafters, intelligent lighting on lightweight (soon to be moving) frames. Double curtains and front screening. Those Western European bands really know how to throw a concert (reference: U2, Muse).

The album cover from Viva La Vida dropped (Eugène Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People) and the concert got rolling. The instrumental “Living in Technicolor” rolled right into the new album’s first single “Violet Hill.” Instantly, Martin owned the crowd; they eagerly anticipating every note and sang along with the passion perhaps only Philadelphia fans can offer. Martin made note several times through the concert that our singing blew him away, and frequently he shoved his mic away and let the crowd take a chorus. It was particularly fun to hear the crowd, and I joined in on “The Scientist.”

Laser lights adorned the arena starting with Clocks, perhaps their biggest hit from their album A Rush of Blood to the Head. The band then took their set to different performance settings. Down the stage left runway was a lit disco-esque platform at which they performed a couple songs. They also did a song on the other runway.

After the majority of their set was completed they suddenly ran off stage, down the hockey boards and into the first floor concourse. The audience abuzz (and many drunken fans sloppily sprinting for the concourse), Coldplay re-emerged in section 106 and performed a set from the entrance space which included “The Scientist” as well as “Death Will Never Conquer.” Acoustically, “The Scientist” worked wonderfully. Until this point I was very happy with the performances, but I did want a little more change from how we’ve heard it from the studio albums. This was the right injection at the right time of some new flavor.

The band then headed back to the stage while a rather political video played to the recorded tune of “Talk.” It included the jab Bill O’Reilly took at Martin and the band on his show. Is there anyone the man doesn’t take a hit at? Oh yeah…the President. Following the video, which played on those neat little hanging spheres that doubled as both live and recorded rotating projector screens, the band uncorked a rendition of “Politik” that made sense following the video.

The concert finished covering all of the hits, past and present, as well as the majority of the new album. Encores consisted of “Green Eyes” and “The Dubliners,” which rocked the crowd to the very end. I will tell you I’ve been to many big concerts. I was on the field for The Police last summer in Citizens’ Bank Park. I was front row for The Who in Washington, DC. This was the most pumped I have ever felt a surrounding audience. It was non-stop singing and pure fun brought on by amazing spectacles of performance with a little humor interspersed from Martin and the gang.

While I maintain The Police and The Who delivered just a bit of a better concert for me as a band, the energy that I felt just blew me away. It put it into that echelon of concert-going. And in my book, that’s great company. The exciting fact for me is that Viva La Vida is the beginning of a new Coldplay, as the older three albums were part of a “trilogy” as Martin has detailed. With what has happened thus far, Coldplay has nowhere to go but up.

The show was great, except for the Scientist. It’s my favorite song, I payed 300 to get on the floor, and they go to the back to sing my favorite song. I was angered.

  2. Don’t worry. You know what to do next time…eh?
