I have only one word to describe Bloc Party’s performance tonight at The Astoria - AMAZING!

The opening band were Fields and they were quite good. A bit too much amplification for my liking [I thought I was going to need earplugs - it was really loud and in your face], but they have some good songs - the up-tempo ones were rockin’. I loved their drummer. He was jamming hard on the skins and does a good drum and bass type rhythm during a couple of their songs. The slower songs sounded quite folky. They have an album coming out on the 2nd April. We were handed free Field CDs in the queue. Also, someone came out with free Bloc Party pin badges and postcards. Sweet! :D.

Bloc Party hit the stage at 9pm and the crowd were already hyped up to the nines. I’d met up with Rebekah, who’s an Admin at Blocparty.net [a very good website] and a couple of other guys I met in the queue [hey Fergus and Gavin ;)], so there was solidarity amongst the ranks. Also Jack, who plays bass in his own band called Talk Show Hosts. We were all stage right in the Gordyzone!

Second London show starts dramatically

Arcade Fire continued their week of intimate London gigs with their second show at St John’s Church tonight (January 30) and were atched by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

For the first time, all 14 of Coldplay’s singles are to be collected together in a box set. Each single will be pressed on heavyweight 7-inch vinyl and sleeved in its original artwork. The box set will contain five singles which have never previously appeared on 7-inch vinyl.

They include ‘The Blue Room EP’, Coldplay’s rare first release for Parlophone in October 1999, which has been split into two 7-inch singles. The box set will also feature the international singles, ‘Don’t Panic’, ‘God Put A Smile Upon Your Face’ and ‘What If’, none of which were released in the UK. It will also include ‘The Hardest Part’, which was previously only available as a download in the UK.

This collection will only be released as a 7-inch vinyl box set, and there will not be a CD release.

The Limited Edition 7-Inch Box Set is released 26th March 2007.

Messages of support have also been posted on Sean Rigg’s MySpace site. He is the 19-year-old Bristol Rovers player whose jaw was broken in two places by Cotterill’s on-the-field punch during an FA Cup tie last November.

As previously reported, the Paltrow-Martin family has purchased the last unsold River Lofts penthouse in the New York City area TriBeCa. Fans were surprised about the purchase, as the family already has a home in the same area - but the New York Times now reports that they have appearently put their old 7,000-square-foot house on Harrison Street back on the market for a stunning amount of $14 million (after buying it for $8 million). Gwyneth’s publicist Stephen Huvane said of the huge amount that considerable work had been done on the house and adds: “I really doubt there is such a thing as ‘celebrity value’ at that price range. But I am not a real estate professional.”

As reported earlier, Gwyneth Paltrow is currently at the Sundance Film Festival and left Chris Martin and the kiddies at home for two days. Yesterday, Gwyneth attended the movie premiere of “The Good Night”, directed by her brother Jake. The premiere was like a big family reunion: Gwyneth’s mum Blythe Danner, her brother Jake Paltrow and her godfather Steven Spielberg (”Uncle Morty”) all attended the premiere. When asked by the press whether there are more kids on the way, Gwyneth doesn’t hesitate to say: ‘No way! Oh my god, this is the first time I’ve slept in three years!
