Bringing you all that cool and happening in Coldplayland. Viva La Vida Baby!

Fans respond to Coldplay’s energy

With a sudden jolt, a giant Cinemascope monitor illuminated the Ford Center stage Monday night, backlighting the shadowy figures of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Jon Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman. Martin leaned on the monitor, intoning the opening lines from Coldplay’s latest album, “X&Y,” to the capacity crowd.

“You’re in control. Is there anywhere you want to go?” Martin sang as a digital countdown commenced on the screen. For the next 90 minutes, Martin and Coldplay took the audience everywhere it wanted to go. It proved that in the three years since Coldplay’s performance at the Civic Center Music Hall, the Oxford, England, group has evolved into something massive: a world-class band that has no problem filling stadiums with spectacle, exuberance and its dramatic, heart-stirring music.

Oklahoma City Reviews 27/02/2006

By RyanBounce05

Coldplay came on with the clock counting down to Square One in the background like usual. It was fantastic! Politik was heavy and loud and everyone was jumping like crazy! Then came my favorite part of the concert. Yellow…. What a fantastic live song! The yellow balloons came down and I actually got to hit one and pop it all over the people next to me! It was a lot of fun. Chris was in top form and this was actually the first time Coldplay has performed in Oklahoma. This was also my first Coldplay concert and I was amazed with the lights and the performance of the band in general. Fix You was my favorite song and I actually had to cry during that song. It’s beautiful. Chris ran through the crowd during In My Place which was very cool! Everything was pretty normal from what I’ve read about other shows… EXCEPTS…… During Speed of Sound… Someone had an oopsy! Chris’s pants were like half way off his ass! He definently had a wardrobe malfunction and apologized to the crowd. They all went nuts! So during God Put A Smile On Your Face, he changed a lyric to… “In Oklahoma where my pants are half way down” or something along the sorts! Very funny! There was also a part of the concert where Chris talked about his experience in Oklahoma City and being shown around. He said it was one of the nicest days he’s ever had. I also have to disagree with taking out Ring Of Fire… The tribute to Cash was very nice and the crowd recieved it well! I’m glad I got the experience to see Coldplay and I definently plan on seeing them again. Chris said that they were coming back so I do expect it! Thank you Coldplay for rocking my socks off!

Coldplay “illegal” gig update: no fine for BBC

Coldplay’s recent performance at Abbey Road, recorded for Radio 2, might have landed the BBC in hot water: the studio has no live entertainment licence.

Under laws laid down in November 2005, such a performance is, strictly speaking, illegal. Coldplay’s performance would be the first to break the law since it came into force, if lawyers for the local council of Westminster decide to prosecute.

If they do, the BBC and Abbey Road’s owners EMI could face a bill of around £20,000.

UPDATE

A genuine oversight by Abbey Road et al has been recognised by potential prosecutors, and no action will be taken. See 6Music for the full story.

Coldplay gig raises licensing issues

Recording studios look set to become the latest unintended casualties of the Government’s Licensing Act as experts warn they must get clearance costing hundreds of pounds a year to let people play live music on their premises.

The problem came to light following a gig performed by Coldplay at Abbey Road studios this month, attended by competition winners, which is set to be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in April.

Under the act, if entertainment is provided for profit or is put on in public the venue must have a licence. Westminster City Council’s legal team also believes that this show should have been licensed even though only winners of the competition - who did not pay for the tickets - were admitted.

ASHCROFT GIVEN ANOTHER BOOST BY COLDPLAY

Former THE VERVE frontman RICHARD ASHCROFT is being given a boost as he attempts to break America again - COLDPLAY have asked him to tour with them.

In a bid to promote his hit new album KEYS TO THE WORLD, Ashcroft will play his first US shows in six years as support on the upcoming Coldplay stadium tour.

Ashcroft is a longtime friend of Coldplay frontman CHRIS MARTIN, who recently named him “the best singer in the world”, and joined the group for a rendition of The Verve’s BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY anthem at last summer’s (05) Live 8 concert.

Ashcroft also opened for Coldplay during a recent UK tour. The North American dates begin on 17 March (06) in Ontario, Canada.

ABBEY ROAD COLDPLAY CONCERT BROKE LAW

COLDPLAY broke licensing laws when they performed a gig for BBC radio at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios earlier this month (FEB06).

The studios, where THE BEATLES recorded many of their hits and an album of the same name, does not have a live entertainment license and could be fined $34,000 (GBP20,000) for staging a concert there.

The performance, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in April (06), was watched by a tiny crowd of competition winners - frontman CHRIS MARTIN even joked “we usually play to more people at our soundchecks” - but is still considered a public event by Westminster Council.

Officials will decided whether to prosecute the BBC and Abbey Road over the next two weeks.

I SACRIFICED CHILDHOOD FOR LIFE AS A SUGABABE

It’s bound to be an exciting year, but Keisha admits she was gutted that her group failed to win a single Brit award - despite selling more than 700,000 copies of their recent album Taller In More Ways.

“The girls will turn around and say they didn’t mind but I was disappointed,” she confessed. “I wanted to be nominated for Best Pop and not winning Best Single was disappointing.

“But Coldplay are a great band and deserved their Best Single win.

TexasluvsJonny’s Dallas 26/02/2006 Review

We are doing ok until the dreaded thing happens. Tall people come sit in front of us. noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lights go out….countdown starts. I’m on Guy’s side tonight. I’m too short to see Jonny. Someone just kill me now! All kinds of arms and shit in my view. I have to hold my camera as high as I can over my head to take pics and video.

Same set list as night before. I took vids of almost all of Square One, Jonny singing on Don’t Panic, and part of Fix You. It was hard taking vids, but damn I wish I had shot more, cuz they came out really good. I tried not to sing along while filming and stuff, but when Jonny started singing, reflexes took over, so you’ll hear me squeek out “I Love You Jonny!”

Teenage twats that can’t stay at their fucking seat for entire show need to die! I prefered our seats in Houston, no obstructed view and people that stay in their place!

Chris mentions rodeo in Houston, Will is thrilled to be playing in the home of the Mavs, and local radio station The Edge. He says something to the effect of “we don’t usually endorse stuff, but the Edge is great. And KFC, America’s greatest food export” Then he occasionally throws in some other adverts throughout the night. :laugh4:

After Fix You, rich idiots in front of us all leave, the band hasn’t even bowed yet! Mary and I rush forward and all I have is one pic left on my memory card. They are together bowing. they start to walk off stage, Jonny walks right in front of me, stops, turns and faces me, waves and smiles. I was shaking so bad, I couldn’t take the pic. Mary asked Hoppy for a set list and she got Guy’s. On the list, they have Trouble/Green Eyes and Swallowed In The Sea/Hardest Part. Why didn’t they choose Green Eyes.

TexasluvsJonny’s Houston 25/02/2006 Report

OK we went to the venue at 5 and checked to see if my tickets were there. They weren’t. The lady said to check back around 6pm. So went went riding around downtown. When we were by the Hyatt, there was a black tinted windows surburban type truck and some peeps were being loaded in. I almost ran off the road trying to see if it was them. It wasn’t.

Went back and parked at venue at 6, still no tickets. OK I’m starting to freak a bit. I had bad dreams that I would get there and they wouldn’t have tickets for me. We had to wait until doors at 7 for tickets, but they were nice seats. Section 120, row 4…ON JONNY’S SIDE   Lots of old geezes all around us. Lord I hope they took their heart pills.

psychosaiqa’s Houston 25/02/2006 Review

ah screw it, i’ll just post the review in this thread and submit it to ian for an official review later.

so we got downtown about 5 to pick up tickets and go eat dinner. picked up the tickets at the box office (i was absolutely elated and relieved to be holding them) and then we ate dinner. my sister’s friend chris kept saying OMG there’s coldplay! and everyone at the table would turn around really quick to see where, but of course they weren’t there. i almost fell out of my chair doing that haha.

and then the concert. we got into the arena right at fiona apple was starting her set. umm…i’m not fiona’s biggest fan, so yeah. she kept hitting herself and doing odd things. so we decided that that was the perfect time for a bathroom break and merchandise shopping hahaha.

so she gets off and it took the roadies about 20-25 minutes to set up and i was getting very, very, very anxious.
