WORLD AIDS DAY: ONE Campaign Podcast with President Mandela and Bono of U2

On December 1st, ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History will join with Gcast.com to launch the first ONE.ORG podcast. The World AIDS Day ONEcast will feature former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, Bono, U2 lead singer and co-founder of DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade for Africa) and Chris Martin of Coldplay, along with members of the faith community and other ONE supporters.

A podcast is an audio recording, from a 10-sec sound to a 30- min radio show, stored as an MP3 file that is easily downloadable through the internet. Hosted by Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Peter Griesar, the ONEcast will be provided to the 2 million current ONE supporters and also be available for free on the ONE.ORG website and popular podcast directories.

Every day in Africa, HIV/AIDS kills 6,300 people, 8,500 people are infected with the HIV virus and 1,400 newborn babies are infected during childbirth. New web technologies such as podcasting can help Americans raise their voices as ONE against the emergency of AIDS and extreme poverty, joining together to ask leaders to do more to save millions of lives in the poorest countries.

(Hot) Cold Play

Check out Stephanie’s pix and report from the Lyon gig [28/11/2005] here. It’s in French, but to get little bit of the gist she mentions the following:

“Chris jumps, Chris moves, made cascades, Chris makes share his joy of being on scene with the public, inviting them to dance and sing, with him. The best moment: When I discover himt perched in the gangway at the top of the room! A gangway which he traverses while singing and while running to with the end and making kisses with his hand to the fans of the last row of the last step… “

Awwwwwwww

Coldplay concert in San Sebastian

Coldplay´s last concert in Spain took place in San Sebastian on Friday 25th November. Despite the freezing temperatures and torrential rain up to 10,000 people turned up to see them play.
Although the support band Goldfrapp, who played for less than half an hour, failed to impress the public, once Coldplay took to the stage, the party began. The group played a selection of songs from all three albums one of the most memorable being ‘Yellow’ when huge yellow balloons descended from the ceiling, finally bursting and showering the audience with gold streamers.

Coldplay surprised the audience with their energy, at one point Chris Martin appeared amongst the audience in one of the furthest seating areas. After a long encore which included Swallowed in the Sea and Fix You the group left the stage to deafening cheers from the public.

NME extends brand to album compilation

LONDON - The NME is to sell a CD on the high street for the first time, having put together a 39-track double compilation album featuring the likes of The Killers, Gorillaz and Coldplay in a joint venture with Universal/EMI.

The IPC title is cashing in on what Universal product manager Simon King called a “vintage year for guitar bands”.

The compilation, ‘NME Presents: The Essential Bands’, includes tracks by bands championed in the magazine among them Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Goldfrapp and Hard-Fi.

King, Universal’s music TV product manager, said: “The NME have allowed us to augment our TV-led marketing with very targeted editorial and ad support.”

In addition, the NME confirmed the line-up for the NME Awards Tour, sponsored by Wella Shockwaves for the second year.

In order of appearance the line-up is Mystery Jets, We Are Scientists, Arctic Monkeys and Maximo Park. The tour begins on January 23 and will visit 19 locations.

Product Placement #3,067,456

As if we didn’t have enough ads and products in our faces. Adrants says that when detective Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo) gets the call on this week’s “CSI: NY,” it will be to the tune of the new Coldplay song.

He’s not just a fan; he’s a part of a product placement. The ringtone is part of a promotional partnership between CBS and Capitol Records. And if you miss it, don’t worry because you’ll also be offered the opportunity to purchase the song “Talk” for your cell for a mere $2.49. Sounds like a great idea. Maybe they can get one of the bodies to give an endorsement… “I may be dead, but I’m not deaf.”

And the Grammy goes to…

“If I have more than five I like in a field, I have to decide how to narrow it down. In one or two categories (this year) I only picked one or two that I liked,” he said. “But sometimes a band can be in more than one category. Take Coldplay. They may be an Album of the Year, a Song of the Year and in the Pop category. Sometimes I’ll decide, ‘This is not record of the year, but maybe it is the best pop album of the year.’”

Coldplay Announce Tour in Ridiculous Manner

Coldplay? More like Coldpretentious! If you thought those guys were annoying, just wait until you hear this:

Coldplay will launch yet another North American tour early next year, but we can’t tell you all of the dates just yet. Why? In order for this allegedly top secret information to be revealed, fans must flock by the thousands to a new website launched by the band.

Every time the site, TalkTheTour.com, brings in 33,000 hits, a date is unlocked. There are 26 of them in all, 16 of which have been disclosed. Sheesh, that’s over half a million unique visitors. And they’re not even making this a benefit for anybody! C’mon, guys!

Plus, the rest of the dates aren’t even that secret: Ticketmaster already lists a Tampa, Florida show that hasn’t been announced by Talk the Tour, and today’s Chicago Tribune Red Eye announced a March 30 performance at the United Center.

Visitors that register to Talk the Tour will be able to view the video for Coldplay’s new single, “Talk” (hence the name). In addition to this, those who tell their friends have a chance to win The Grand Prize: a call from Chris Martin, free front row tickets to a show, a meeting with the band, and a trip to the 2006 Grammy Awards. See you on the red carpet, Gwynnie.

In other Coldplay-bashing news, Gigwise.com reported earlier this morning that when asked which celebrity should burn in hell, the Darkness’ Justin Hawkins responded with a big ol’ Chris Martin! As a man who bought his own album on eBay to keep it from leaking, we think Hawkins can be trusted. We present Martin with a one way ticket to hell… and not back.
